Away, handmade in Cusco
A Cusco artisan working at her loom

Every piece begins long before it reaches your home.

Hands come first.

How a piece takes shape.

The process changes with each artisan and each object. These are the stages we share.

  1. 1

    Choosing the fiber

Wool, alpaca and natural fibers are selected by touch, strength and how the finished piece will be used.

  2. 2

    Setting the weave

Color and structure are decided before the first thread crosses the loom.

  3. 3

    Weaving and finishing

Hours of handwork give the piece its form. Each one is checked and finished by hand.

About us.

An AWAY co-founder with her camera in Cusco

We are a couple from Cusco who started AWAY to bring the work of local women artisans to homes beyond Peru.

We grew up around Cusco's markets, workshops and textiles. Today, we work directly with artisans on small collections of bags, blankets and objects for the home. Every piece is woven and finished by hand, and the small variations are part of what makes it singular.
